Blackboard provides four complimentary methods of communicating with students:
offer the professor a means of
getting messages to the class; it is one-directional and information-oriented.
comprise a realtime "chat" tool that allows faculty and
students to interact spontaneously. They are especially useful when the goal
is informal and conversational.
are asynchronous "bulletin boards" used by faculty
and students to participate in substantive academic exchanges.
allows class members to exchange email with the
professor and between themselves as individuals, groups, or with an
entire class.
