Digital Drop Box comprises a repository for assignments. If your professor
asks you to use DDB it means that you can submit an assignment online and,
usually, your professor will correct and return it online as well. Using
DDB has a number of advantages over using email attachments:
- It is safer -- computer viruses are filtered out by Bb.
- Using Bb keeps your -- sometimes large -- assignments from
taking up your email volume quota.
- Assignments submitted via Bb are remain in their Bb course site
and are not sent about the Internet.
Important:
Submitting an assignment takes two steps: adding the file, then sending
it. The most commonly made mistake is for students to add but not send;
remember that adding a file puts it in your site, while sending it puts
it in your professor's site. Without completing both halves of the operation
the faculty member will not get your paper!

ADD AN ASSIGNMENT
Enter the Digital Drop Box
|
First access your course, then select the Tools option
from the navigation bar. Note that the navigation bar
for your course may not look just like the one on the right,
as faculty have control over the look and feel of their
Bb course sites. Still, the name of the content area is
likely to be "Tools." |

|
|
You will be shunted to a menu that includes several choices,
often Addressbook and Calendar, etc. Click on the Digital
Drop Box |

|
Select: Add File
|

|
As suggested above the DDB takes two steps, the first
of which involves adding the file to your Bb site.
Select the Add File button. |
Choose: File to add
First, give your paper a title -- this is the subject
line your professor will see when s/he accesses the file. Next, use the
Browse button to locate the file on your hard drive or portable media
(such as a floppy or Zip drive). In the example below the name of the
document is NJ.doc, and it is located in the Temp folder of the hard drive.
Finally, add a comment -- this step
is optional.

Select: Submit
|

|
The action is not completed until you select the Submit
button! |
|

|
After you have clicked the Submit button a window just like
the one to the left will pop up reminding you that you have
not yet submitted the file to your professor -- you must still
complete the Send operation (see below). |
Add: File Receipt
|
You will get a receipt assuring you that the file has been
added to your site, and is ready for the next step: sending
it to your professor.

SUBMIT AN ASSIGNMENT
Send: File to your Professor
|

|
As suggested above the DDB takes two steps: first,
add a file to your Bb site (see above). Second,
sending the file to your professor. Select the
Send File button.
|
Select: User and File
|
Select the name of your professor from the list. There may
only be one name available (unlike the illustration below).
|

| |
Open the menu next to Select File and choose the paper
or papers to send to your professor. If you've only added
one file you'll have only one option, but you can choose
to add a number of papers (see above) and then send them
all at once. The Comment area is optional.

Remember to click the Submit button in order to complete
the operation!
