Laptop Support Policy

Division of Library and Information Systems

In order to provide the highest quality support for faculty and administrators using laptop computers for their work at William Paterson University, those technical units responsible for their support must focus resources on a subset of the many available laptop computers currently on the market. The following laptop computers are fully supported:

Connecting to the Campus Network:

WPnet is a TCP/IP network which, depending on the local building network architecture, supports connections at either 10Mbps or 100Mbps.. Support for laptops connecting to WPnet is provided contingent on the laptop having a PC card from either of three vendors, 3Comm, Megahertz, or Dayna Communications.

Supported PC Cards for Network Connectivity:

Support for laptops from the Division of Library and Information Services is limited to the models of equipment listed above. On-going Help Desk support for installation or operational concerns is similarly confined to this list of supported hardware. As the technology changes rapidly in this area, faculty and staff are encouraged to refer to the campus web server for the most recent information of describing supported laptop equipment.
