In System 7 software, MacTCP (the networking software) is included, but you must get a dialer program (to do the actual dialing).

This is no sweat, provided you or a friend have access to a Mac already connected to the internet, like any of the Macintoshes in Campus Labs.

Find the MacTCP Control Panel in the "Control Panels" Folder (Found in the Apple Menu ). The setteings are as follows:

  • Obtain Adress: Server
  • Subnet: Class C
  • Gateway Adress will be: 38.1.1.1
  • Domain: wpunj.edu
  • IP Adress: 149.151.1.9

You will still need a dialer program to connect to the internet. There is a nice free one on the internet called FreePPP. Get it from a friend or a computer that is already connected to the internet from: www.rockstar.com.

Once you install this program, it will let you finish configuring your Wpnet account. It will ask for the Dial-in number, your login, and your password. All of these are provided when you sign up for your comkit in the Atrium, Room 122. In Free PPP, your first step after installing it and opening it for the first time (after you restart your computer) is to create a new account. There are only a few settings, most of which you already have. The others should be self explanatory. Go through all the option tabs in FreePPP to make sure everything is as it should be. If there is anything you are unsure about, referr to your modem documentation, or look at the help file included with FreePPP (a very helpful tool!).
Some FreePPP Settings:

  • Connect: Directly
  • Flow Control: CTS & RTS (DTR)
  • Modem Init String: Determined by modem you are using. See the documentation that came with your modem.
  • IP adress: Assigned by PPP Server
