The Caribbean Council for Science and Technology (CCST) and The Water and Sewerage Authority of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago co-sponsored a Seminar on Integrated Resources Management in the Caribbean at Port of Spain, Trinidad, June 24-27, 1997.

Specialists from many Caribbean Government Ministries, Departments, non-governmental organizations and funding agencies participated in a comprehensive examination of country experiences and issues of water resources management in the Caribbean. A Regional Strategy and Programme of Action for Strengthening Water Resources Management in the Caribbean was adopted. (Further information: Contact CCST, Trinidad).

As part of the "National Dialogue on Sustainable Development," the Barbados Water Authority organized a workshop on "Sustainable Water Management" at Barbados, July 6, 1997 to examine issues of water quantity and quality and to develop a sustainable water management strategy for the island. (Further information: Dr. Bwalya Mwansa, Water Resources Management and Water Loss Studies, Barbados Water Authority).

Insula-Caribbean is interested in cooperating in the development of an on-line interactive data base on water resources management and related issues, highlighting best practices in the region and elsewhere. Insula is ready to collaborate with any ongoing or related planned initiatives.
