Our Mission

Peer Health Advocates provide the William Paterson University  campus with innovative programs and educational presentations involving the risks, affects and consequences related to unhealthy decision making by encouraging healthy decision making. 

Peer Health Advocates are skilled and trained on numerous health related issues and offer themselves to students through educational lectures, “CHOICES” theatrical presentations,    tabling events, collaborating with campus clubs and organizations and hosting substance free events.   The Peer Health Advocates serve as positive role models both on and off campus by living healthy lifestyles.

About Peer Health Advocates:

Peer Health Advocates are specially trained individuals that educate and share experiences that encourage their peers to make health choices. Each Peer Health Advocate earns their CPE (Certified Peer Educator) certification.

Programs Provided by PHA:

Educational Topics: Alcohol, Tobacco, Marijuana, RX Use and Abuse, Body Image/Eating Disorders

Mental Health Issues/Stress/Suicide, Sexual Assault, Stalking, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Healthy Well Being, Social Norms Campaigns and More… Just Ask!

Freshmen Orientation- “CHOICES” Theatrical Presentation

 

Off Campus:

“CHOICES” Theatrical presentations.

Leadership Training to local High School students.

Leaders in annual Passaic County Teen Summit.

 Annual Bacchus Conference.

Annual Peer Institute.

Peer Health Advocates have received training in Suicide Prevention, Safe Space Training, and Violence Prevention.

Health Related Events: The Peer Health Advocates and the Health Educator conduct presentations to FYE, Greeks, Clubs, and Residence Life Staff as per request. (Please complete Request for Presentation Form if interested).

The Health Educator provides a variety of educational programs and trainings to the William Paterson University campus community.

RA Training: Alcohol Poisoning/Standard Drink/ additional topics by request

Helpers Training: Train individuals to help others quit smoking

Alcoholedu: Mandatory online alcohol education program for all incoming freshmen and transfer students with less than 11.5 credits.

Violence Prevention

Host Responsibility Programs: Teaching individuals to drink responsible

HERO Campaign: Become a Designated Driver

 Supervises Health Education Internships
