BERGEN COUNTY RETIRED EDUCATORS SCHOLARSHIP
Two $500 scholarships, funded by the Bergen County Retired Educators Association. The scholarships are for full-time students who reside in Bergen County and demonstrate a record of academic achievement, community or public service, and who plan a career in teaching.
MICHAEL AND EMMA BURNS SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship up to $500 is funded by Michael '64 and Emma Burns ‘64. The recipient is a student who has served at least one semester on the Beacon or Pioneer Times newspaper staff and is currently on the newspaper staff with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
HERBERT AND CONSTANCE CALIFANO SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship up to $500 is funded by the Califano Family and friends. The recipient must be majoring in mathematics, pursuing a career in teaching, and planning to study on the graduate level. He/she must be active in campus activities, achieve a minimum GPA of 3.5, and not be eligible for state or federal grant programs.
PAUL K. CHAO SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship, funded by Professor Paul Chao, up to $600 is for a student with financial need majoring or about to major in African, African American and Caribbean Studies.
ANDREW B. CRAWFORD SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship up to $1,000 was created by family and friends in memory of Andrew Crawford, Class of 2001. Student must have financial need, a GPA of 2.5, and be involved in extracurricular activities.
COTSAKOS FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship up to $2,500 is made possible by Christos ‘73 and Tami Cotsakos ‘71. The recipient must be a resident of Paterson, NJ, and demonstrate financial need.
SAM AND IRENE DEDIO SCHOLARSHIP
Two scholarships of $2,600, funded by Sam and Irene Dedio, for a junior majoring in communication or business with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference is for a full-time student who works part-time. The scholarship may be renewed for another year if a minimum GPA of 3.0 and full-time status is maintained.
HELEN DOELE DEMAREST SCHOLARSHIP
One $2,000 scholarship has been created by the Jay and Anita Hyman Family and friends of Helen Doele Demarest ‘27/'36/'53. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be preparing for teacher certification with the intention of teaching at the elementary or secondary level.
FIFTIETH REUNION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
One $500 scholarship has been created by alumni in remembrance of the 50th anniversary of their graduation from William Paterson. The scholarship recipients are chosen on a rotating basis from the University's five Colleges.
GAMMA LAMBDA AWARD
An award of $100 is given to an outstanding student in mathematics.
JOSEPH A. GORAB SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship up to $700 is available to a student pursuing studies in the field of teaching the learning disabled. He/she also must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and pursue extracurricular activities.
AGNES C. GRIMSHAW SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship up to $1,500 has been created by Agnes Grimshaw ‘25 for a student with scholastic ability with a preference for a biology or chemistry major.
HOBART FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
Preference for one scholarship up to $500 created by the Hobart Family is given to a political science or history major who demonstrates financial need.
DONALD L. HUGHES SCHOLARSHIP
One $1,000 scholarship in memory of Donald L. Hughes is funded by the AAA of North Jersey. Recipient must be a current member (or closely related to a current member) of the AAA of North Jersey.
GARY HUTTON SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship up to $500 was created by the friends of Gary Hutton ‘73 in his memory. Preference is for an African American recipient majoring in music. The student must be in good academic standing with satisfactory progress toward a degree.
MOHAMMED T. KHAIRULLAH SCHOLARSHIP
One $500 scholarship has been donated by Mohamed Khairullah for a resident of Prospect Park enrolled in the College of Education or Christos M. Cotsakos College of Business. Student must be full-time with a minimum GPA of 3.25 with a preference for community involvement.
KOCH MODULAR PROCESS SYSTEMS SCHOLARSHIP
Six scholarships at $5,000 are funded by Koch Modular Process Systems, Inc. for an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in nursing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need.
HOWARD B. LEIGHTON SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship in the amount of $2,000 has been donated by Professor Howard B. Leighton. The recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student with permanent New Jersey residence, must be majoring in studio or art history, and preferably have demonstrated talent and excellence in her/his chosen major. Financial need should not be a criterion.
SARA J. LONGENDYCK SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship up to $500, funded by Daniel Terhune, the Longendyck Family and friends in memory of Sara Longendyck, is awarded to a female student who graduated from Clifton High School.
JOHN VICTOR MACHUGA ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Two $2,500 scholarships are funded by the John Victor Machuga Foundation. The recipients must be high-achieving students of color.
HELEN AND PHILIP MANNO AWARD
One $100 award, funded by Forte Manno is given to a graduating senior with the highest GPA in English for the academic year.
MCDERMOTT TEACHING SCHOLARSHIP
Four $500 scholarships have been donated by the McDermott family for non-traditional students who are pursuing teacher certification. Recipients must be accepted into the professional teaching component and have minimum sophomore level standing, a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and a letter of faculty support.
MUSIC FACULTY AWARD
Ten to 15 awards, funded by the Music Faculty and ranging from $150 to $400, are given annually to outstanding music students.
MAUREEN AND PATRICK O'CONNOR SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship for $5,000 is funded by Will '73 and Henrietta Pesce '72 in honor of Mrs. Pesce's parents. The recipient must be a first generation college student, education concentration, sophomore, junior or senior with GPA of at least 3.0 indicating a strong work ethic.
AUDREY AND ALBERT PELHAM SCHOLARSHIP
One $1,000 scholarship, funded by Dr. Sally Hand, is awarded to an African American student graduating from an inner-city high school or returning to college to complete his/her degree. Award is renewable for up to four years if the student maintains a minimum 2.5 GPA the first year and 2.75 for subsequent years.
OLIVIA J. PHILLIPS SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship up to $500 was created by Dorothy Emerson in memory of her daughter, Olivia J. Phillips ‘68. Scholarship is awarded to a full-time, undergraduate student who is planning a career in teaching. The student must demonstrate financial need.
SUSAN G. RADNER SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship up to $1,250, funded by Susan Radner, is restricted to a student enrolled in the College of the Humanities and Social Sciences. The recipient must maintain a 2.50 GPA to be considered for renewal.
FRED C. RUMMEL SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $2,500 are funded by the Rummel Foundation. Recipients must live in Essex or Union Counties, be from the top 20 percent of their high school graduating class and/or have a minimum GPA of 3.30. Awards are given to full-time students enrolled in the William Paterson Honors Program. To be renewed, recipients must demonstrate financial need and maintain a GPA of 3.0. Preference is given to students of color.
ROSEMARY SALVINI SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship up to $750 was created by Emil '71 and Nancy Salvini '72 in memory of Emil's sister. Recipient must be an undergraduate student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 matriculated in the College of Education and majoring in Special Education.
SENIOR CLASS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship of $1,000 or more is funded by graduating seniors for a deserving undergraduate student.
CAROLE SHEFFIELD AWARD
One $500 award, named in honor of William Paterson Professor Carole Sheffield, is awarded to a distinguished student of political science and women's studies. Student must have a record of community service and activism.
WALTER AND LOUISE SUTCLIFFE SCHOLARSHIP
Ten $1,500 scholarships and five $2,000 scholarships are funded by the Walter and Louise Sutcliffe Foundation. Recipients are undergraduate nursing students with a minimum GPA of 2.75 and demonstrated financial need.
MARY THOMPSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship at $5,000, funded by BP, is awarded to an outstanding student enrolled in the cotsakos College of Business who has demonstrated expertise in the field of Professional Sales.
TWENTY-FIFTH REUNION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
One $1,000 scholarship was created by alumni in celebration of the 25th anniversary of their graduation from William Paterson. The scholarship recipient is chosen on a rotating basis from the University's five colleges.
PAUL VOURAS HUMANITIES AWARD
One award up to $500, donated by Professor Paul Vouras, is to be given to an academically outstanding senior (either in history or philosophy) who is planning on continuing on a graduate level. Recipients are to be nominated by the department and selected by department chairs.
PAUL VOURAS SOCIAL SCIENCE AWARD
The Social Science Award of $250, donated by Professor Paul Vouras, is given to an academically outstanding senior (either in sociology, political science, or psychology) who is going on for graduate work. The recipients are to be nominated by the department and selected by the chairs of those departments.
WAYEN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
Two $2,500 scholarships funded by the Wayen Foundation are awarded to students of Chinese descent.
WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY EMPLOYEES SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship up to $1,500 is funded by William Paterson employees. The recipient must be a student entering sophomore, junior, or senior year who has demonstrated academic achievement, contributed to the life of the University through participation in recognized activities, and who is employed on- or off-campus for a minimum of 15 hours per week.
JAMES WILLIAMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This fund was created by family and friends in memory of Professor James Williams of the Jazz Studies Department. Scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Jazz Studies.
FRANK ZANFINO SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship up to $750, funded by the friends and family of Frank Zanfino ‘49, is alternately awarded to a student enrolled in the Christos M. Cotsakos College of Business and the College of Education.
