Disability Services

The following are Adaptive Techonology available to registered students of the Office of Disability Services at William Paterson University:

Room 105, Reference Department

Users must register at the Reference Desk

  • A Kurzweil Omni 1000 reading/scanning workstation
    • For individuals with visual impairments
  • A Kurzweil Omni 3000 reading/scanning workstation
    • For individuals with learning disabilities
  • Also available in the Atrium
    • Dragon Systems Naturally Speaking
    • Speech recognition software is available as a typing/writing tool
    • For students with hand or finger dexterity difficulty or students with learning difficulties that affect writing skills

Other Equipment:

  • Optelec video magnification system
  • David & Lorraine Cheng Library, Periodicals Department
  • Magnification approximately 4x to 100x
  • ZoomText software
  • Labs throughout campus
  • To assist individuals with visual impairments

NJ Lending Program

Adaptive Technology Center for New Jersey Colleges

  • Short-term, trial loan program for approximately one semester
  • Requirements:
    • Must identify yourself as having a disability and provide required documentation to WPU Disability Services Office

 

Lending Process

  • The student must contact Disability Services
  • Disability Services will fill out a College Lending Agreement form
  • The student will complete a Student Lending Agreement form and submit it to the TCNJ Adaptive Technology Center
  • The Adaptive Technology Center and Disability Services will discuss appropriate assistive technology for the student's needs
  • Assistive technology is picked up by the student at Disability Services and returned to Disability Services at the end of the semester
  • The student will complete a Loan Evaluation Form and submit it to the Adaptive Technology Center

Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic

RFB&D is a national nonprofit organization devoted to providing accessible educational materials at all academic levels to people who cannot effectively read standard print because of a visual impairment, learning disability or other physical disability.

Texts are available on CD's, RFB&D's AudioPlus®, four-track audio cassettes, standard cassettes, etc.

If you would like a textbook in audio format, please complete a Request for Materials in Alternate Format form and return it to the Office of Disability Services. Completed forms can be returned via email at disability@wpunj.edu, via fax at 973-720-2095, or in person to the Student Center,room 301.
