Summer Urban Teacher's Academy
The William Paterson University Urban Teacher Academy is an excellent introduction to the exciting world of urban education. It also serves as a long-term recruitment strategy to increase the pool of candidates interested in becoming urban teachers. William Paterson University Summer Urban Teacher Academy benefits include:
- An introduction to teaching and the teaching profession
- Opportunities to meet with William Paterson faculty, educational leaders, and teachers to discuss issues pertinent to urban education
- Field trips to urban schools, museums and community agencies
- Meaningful, creative, hands-on learning activities
- Team building exercises
- Educational tour of William Paterson’s campus
High school students will be given a “behind the scenes” view to teaching and learning new concepts and ideas. Students will experience the classroom as they become acquainted with teachers and teaching on a personal and professional level. They will also experience the profession as they are guided through issues pertinent to urban education and the functions of schools. Each participant will keep a portfolio to document his/her experiences in the Summer Urban Teacher Academy.

*Students who want to become Residents, must first be accepted into the program
Time: 8:30 - 4:30pm
Dates: July 8-11 and July 15-18
Fees: Free for Commuters; $315 for Residents
