Department of Chemistry
First of all, let me take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in the chemistry program at William Paterson University. Chemistry helps us in defining the molecular basis of fundamental principles involved in our day to day life. Each and everything, what we touch, feel, and create is made up of chemicals and this interrelation to living beings makes chemistry a central science. Excellence in chemical research has contributed very decisively in the development of modern day economy. Our department provides a very vigorous, rigorous and research oriented curriculum leading to a BS degree. The class sizes are small and every class is taught by trained faculty with a doctorate degree. Our department is very well equipped and possesses modern instrumentation including HPLC, UPLC, GPC, GCMS, FT-NMR (solid and diffusion), FT-IR, UV-VIS (solid and liquid) and Atomic Force Microscope. Inter-departmental imaging facilities consisting of Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) are also available for teaching and research.
The chemistry degree provides a wide range of opportunities for employment. Traditionally, our undergraduates find a research or technical position in pharmaceutical petroleum, chemical materials, food processing, biochemical and biotechnology industries. A significant number of our students continue their studies to graduate and medical schools leading to many unique and rewarding careers.
Finally, please do not hesitate to contact me or my staff for visiting our department or any further information questions or queries, which you might have.
