The Pre-Professional Program of the College of Science and Health at William Paterson University is dedicated to preparing undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students for the entrance to professional schools in health-related sciences. Last year approximately 70 % of our pre-professional students gained first time admission to professional schools, including the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Columbia University Medical School and School of Dentistry, Ross University College of Veterinary Medicine, West Virginia School of Pharmacy, and Temple University School of Dentistry.
The Department of Biology has established a Pre-Physical Therapy Program in conjunction with The Rutgers School of Health Related Programs (Rutgers SHRP). This 3-by-3 program of study will lead to a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from William Paterson and the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of Medicine and Dentistry.
We also have an articulation agreement with Temple University School of Dentistry. This agreement will guarantee seats for qualified William Paterson students and make available an accelerated 3+4 undergraduate/professional school education leading to the Baccalaureate and Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degrees. The joint program will consist of a minimum of 90 semester hours at William Paterson University and a four-year curriculum of dental medicine at Temple University School of Dentistry.
Our pre-med, pre-pharmacy, pre-vet, pre-PT and other pre-professional programs have been very successful at getting our qualified applicants into schools of their choice. How do you benefit from William Paterson's Pre-Professional Program? We provide students with detailed information about careers in areas of Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Optometry, Physical Therapy, and other health-related professions.
Our Program committee will advise you in meeting the admission requirements, coach you for interviews, provide guidance with choosing the right school, assist you with completing your applications, and provide a letter of recommendation for your application to health-related graduate and professional schools.
How can you network with Pre-Professional students and health professionals? Join the Galen Society, a club for students interested in health-related professions. The Society takes trips to open houses of professional schools and invites professionals such as physicians, veterinarians, and dentists to speak at their meetings. Alumni who are presently attending professional schools also visit regularly and share their experiences with Galen Society students.
If you are already enrolled at William Paterson University and you plan to attend professional schools, please make an appointment with the chair of the Pre-professional Committee, Dr. Claire Leonard (email@example.com). If you are an undergraduate student at a College or University other than William Paterson University and plan to transfer, you are advised to contact the Admissions office for an application. Students interested in the post-baccalaureate pre-professional program are advised to contact the Admissions office and apply to William Paterson University as a 2nd degree undergraduate student in Biology. Careful planning years in advance is advised.
