 “A Different Kind of Nursing Career…Consider Teaching”

Program Description:

The New Jersey Nursing Initiative Faculty Preparation Program is offering an exciting opportunity to become a nurse faculty member. As a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation NJ Nursing Scholar, you will prepare for a rewarding career teaching the next generation of nurses in the state. Support is available as you earn a Master of Science degree in a clinical specialty, with additional preparation in education. The need for nursing faculty in the state of NJ is great. The NJ Nursing Scholars Program will select a small number of top candidates for two cohort classes. Cohort I will study from fall 2009 to spring 2011. Cohort II will study from fall 2010 to spring 2012. The Deadline for Applications for Cohort II is May 1, 2010.

The Scholarship Includes:

■ full tuition and fees for the full-time MSN program
$50,000 a year stipend for two years, to cover living expenses
a laptop computer
socialization and peer mentorship opportunities

 To be Eligible, You Must:

1. Meet admission requirements, be accepted and enroll as a full-time MSN student in the advanced clinical program at one of the following programs:

Kean University – Community Nursing
The College of New Jersey – Adult Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Leader
The Richard Stockton College – Adult Nurse Practitioner
William Paterson University – Adult Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP 2010)

 2. Be a United States citizen or permanent resident.

 3. Submit the RWJF New Jersey Nursing Scholar Application, along with a two-page double-spaced essay, by May 1, 2010.

 Begin your studies as a New Jersey Nursing Scholar:

 Step 1. To Apply for Matriculation as a full-time MSN student in the advanced clinical nursing program at a partner school, please click on one of the links below:

William Paterson University – Graduate Admissions

Kean University – Graduate Admissions

The College of New Jersey – Graduate Admissions

The Richard Stockton College – Graduate Admissions

*The Graduate Record Exam or Miller Analogies Test is required for some programs. Please check with the admissions information specific to the school to which you are applying. You may register for the test at a center, or make an appointment to take the MAT at William Paterson University’s Office of Testing .

Step 2. Send in the signed Scholarship Application , Terms of Agreement form, and Rights and Responsibilities form along with your typed, double-spaced, two-page Essay describing:

a) your motivation to attend the New Jersey Nursing Initiative Faculty Preparation Program

b) any professional and voluntary experiences related to teaching/education

c) your career goals

Essays must include your name, address, and phone number. We strongly recommend that you keep a copy of all of your application materials for your own reference.

The Deadline for Applications for Cohort II is May 1, 2010
