Grant Activities

During the Fall 2003 semester, the first cohort of students completed the two-course sequence in research methods/statistics.

During course #1, students developed a research question and corresponding hypothesis and also wrote the review of literature section of their group research reports.

In course #2, students collected data, analyzed the data, and wrote the methods, results, and discussion sections of their research reports.

As of Spring 2005 semester, a total of four cohorts of students have completed group research projects in CSH 250/CSH 350.

Some of these research projects have included:
  • Exercise Participation, Television Viewing, and Body Fat Percent for Students in Grades 4-8.

  • Stress and Grade Point Averages of College Students.

  • Effect of High School Sex Education Programs on Current Sexual Practices of College Students.

  • Exercise Participation, Television Viewing, Diet, and Body Fat Percent of High School Freshmen versus College Freshmen.
  • Relationship between Functional Ability and Quality of Life among Older Adults.

  • Attitudes toward Needle Exchange Programs.

A fifth cohort of students will finish data collection in Fall 2005 and the two group research projects are:

  • Relationship between Health Behaviors among Male and Female Adolescents.

  • Mass Media Effect on Body Image Among High School Female Freshmen Versus High School Female Seniors.
