ATEP
Mission Statement
The mission of the Athletic Training Education Program at William Paterson University is to promote student success, educational excellence, and lifelong learning. The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accredited undergraduate Athletic Training Education Program affords students a comprehensive, progressive education. The faculty and staff are committed to provide quality professional education and high academic standards for a diverse student population, while facilitating the integration of didactic and clinical education experiences.
The Athletic Training Education Program is a rigorous, challenging educational experience which presents knowledge and skills necessary for the students' professional preparation. Upon completion of the program, the students will be well prepared to take the Board of Certification (BOC) examination. Ultimately, the goal of the Athletic Training Education Program at William Paterson University is to prepare students for a successful future in the athletic training profession.

ATEP Objectives and Outcomes
The Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) maintains various objectives which promote programmatic, curricular, and student outcomes. The program aims to:
- Develop competent athletic training students, by preparing them for the Board of Certification exam and a successful future as certified athletic trainers.
- Give high quality education to athletic training students to prepare them to pursue graduate education in athletic training, allied health, or a related field.
- Foster a professional work ethic in athletic training students.
- Promote sensitivity to diversity within the ATEP among the, faculty, staff, athletic training students, and athletes.
- Assist athletic training students with developing lifelong learning skills.
- Develop athletic training students’ clinical skills.
- Develop athletic training students’ written and verbal communication skills.
- Encourage athletic training students to take responsibility for and value their education.
- Motivate students to take an enthusiastic, active role in learning and skill development.
- Promote student success in the classroom, clinical education, and field experiences.
- Encourage students to utilize their didactic knowledge and incorporate it appropriately into their skills for clinical education experiences.
- Encourage athletic training students to pursue other educational fields along with athletic training.
- Present athletic training and related didactic material effectively to promote student comprehension, knowledge acquisition, and critical thinking.
- Endorse student use of technology in the classroom and clinical education experiences.
- Support hands-on practical learning of athletic training students in a variety of settings, and under diverse circumstances, with various clinical instructors.
- Encourage students to take active roles in the community and professional organizations.
- Create a working community with on-campus and off-campus certified athletic trainers, athletic training students, coaches, athletes, and administration.
- Advertise the ATEP to potential athletic training students and employers.
- Attain effective instructional off-campus sites and clinical instructors.
