Public Health Honor Society

Eta Sigma Gamma (ESG) is the national Health Science Honorary, a professional honorary society open to undergraduate students, graduate students and professionals in Health Science/Health Education and Health promotion. Gamma Lambda is the local chapter of Eta Sigma Gamma and was charter in 1993 at UTEP. The goal of Eta Sigma Gamma is to encourage excellence in teaching, research, and service in the Health Science discipline. As an undergraduate or graduate student with a major or minor in Health Science or Health Education, you are encouraged to become an active member of this chapter.

Eta Sigma Gamma was specifically formed for professionals in Health Science and Health Education/Promotion in the United States and other nations. Its basic purposes are teaching, research, and service and each are promoted through learning. Eta Sigma Gamma was formed in 1967 at Ball State University in Indiana. As of 1992, seventy-eight colleges throughout the United States had established local chapters in affiliation with Eta Sigma Gamma.

Members of Eta Sigma Gamma receive many benefits - a certificate of membership and the official membership pin of the honorary. Membership also includes subscriptions to The Health Educator and The Eta Sigma Gamma Monograph. Annual national and chapter awards are also available through Eta Sigma Gamma. In addition, members benefit professionally and socially through interactions as an active member of Eta Sigma Gamma.

Requirements for induction into ESG:
Induction into Eta Sigma Gamma is by invitation and is dependant upon maintaining a 3.3 major GPA and having completed at least 12 credits of major core courses.
