The Interdisciplinary minor in Urban Studies engages students in a deep
study of the city as a human space and the place of the city in the world.
The undergraduate program weaves together such fields as literature, history,
policy planning, community development, politics, anthropology, art and
environmental studies to prepare students to make a difference in the
lived experience of our urban communities.

We approach the city historically, poetically,
sociologically, and personally. The program blends academic rigor with
community-based experience. Knowledge of urban studies is valued in professions
as diverse as politics, medicine, business, and music. The goal of the
program is to enable students to apply the interests and issues of their
field of concentration to meaningful projects and activities in the cities
around us, from Paterson and Hoboken to New York and Philadelphia.
