Latin American Studies Minor
Requirements

REQUIREMENTS for the MINOR:
To minor in Latin American Studies, students must complete 18 credits as follows:

REQUIRED CORE

  • LAS 201: Introduction to Latin American Studies.
  • Students must choose 2 (two) courses from two different departments from the following list:

SPAN 232: Survey of Latin American Literature (in Spanish)
SPAN 301: Masterpieces of Latin American Literature in Translation (in English).
HIST 380: Colonial Latin America
HIST 381: Modern Latin America.
POL 337: Politics of Latin America.

ELECTIVES FOR THE MINOR (9 credits)

Elective courses must be taken in at least 2 different departments. Electives include any course from the Electives for the Major list as well as any new courses approved by the Latin American Studies Committee

 

Many LAS courses are cross-listed and satisfy course requirements in affiliate departments. In addition, LAS courses fulfill the Non-Western, General Education and Upper Division requirements of the university’s general education core.
