July 1st to July 31st  (tentative dates)

The WPUNJ Summer in Spain is designed to provide students with language and cultural instruction by immersion in the everyday life and cultural activities of a typical Spanish university.

THE PROGRAM

The trip will start with a 2 day stay in Madrid with visits to museums and nearby historical and architectural landmarks. The students will travel to the University of Santiago de Compostela where they will participate in courses for 2, 3 or 4 weeks (depending on individual’s needs).

The course in Spanish culture, taught by WPU faculty, will incorporate field trips to places relevant to the subjects studied. The language instruction will be provided by the host University within its already well-established summer program.

FACULTY

Professor María P. Tajes will be teaching the culture classes and faculty on sight might teach other courses.

WHO MAY APPLY

The trip is open to all students who have taken the language placement test. They must be in good academic standing  and provide two letters of recommendation.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Students will fill out the application form and will turn it to Dr. María Tajes, in Atrium 252 or Lorraine Caruso, in Atrium 239, by  March 1, 2004.

A committee formed by faculty from the Department of Languages and Cultures will screen the applicants and choose a pool, with a list of alternates if the pool is too large. Two mandatory orientation meetings for successful applicants will be held during Spring semester to go over details of the program and to provide materials that will help prepare students for the Spanish experience.
