Type in a sentence in American English, and the software at the Bell-Labs webpage will pronounce it for you. Of course you will need a sound card and speakers to do this at home. The software will enable you to pick the type of voice you want to hear: man, woman, child, raspy, and so on. Also if you click on Advanced Interface at the bottom of the page, you will be able to speed up or slow down the speech rate.
