What you should know about...

World Language Teaching

New Jersey Requirements:

William Paterson’s French & Francophone studies Program (FFSP)

Students wanting to be teachers must complete an accepted undergraduate major.

FFSP qualifies as an undergraduate major for certification in the State of New Jersey.

World Language teachers will be expected to have an understanding of teaching methodologies and of communicative language learning.

Supplementing the teaching courses our students take through the College of Education, we model current methodologies and technologies at all levels of language learning.

All teaching certification students must take 30 credits in certification courses.

FFSP, as a 33 credit major, is a feasible program of study to complete along with certification requirements.

World Language Teachers will be required to demonstrate strong written skills and advanced-low oral proficiency in the foreign language.

All of our upper level courses are taught entirely in French, guaranteeing our students extensive target language experience.

World Language Teachers will be encouraged to have had an extended language immersion experience.

The majority of our students participate in our numerous study abroad programs through exchanges and the New Jersey Consortium.
