Rho Alpha is an active chapter.
In the Spring of 1996 we had our first annual banquet held at La Neve's restaurant in North Haledon.
Professor Carol Gruber was the featured speaker. The History Department honors were awarded to Melissa Bensh and Eric Maney.
We also conducted our first official initiation of new members into the Society.
In the Spring of 1997 our chapter was invited to St. John's University for a regional conference. Three students from our campus were selected by the History faculty to attend and present papers.
Frank Varney, Barbara Peters and Sarit Shapiro were awarded book awards by Rho Alpha for their involvement and excellent papers.
Frank Varney won third prize at the conference for his paper "The Sanity of MADD".
In April 1997 we held our second annual banquet at the Brownstone in Paterson.
Our guest speaker was Professor Kenneth Jackson of Columbia University who spoke on the importance of history.
We also initiated 22 new members, four of whom are Department faculty.
Coming soon in the Spring of 1998:
- We are hosting the Phi Alpha Theta regional conference
- The Third Annual Banquet
- Establishing a newsletter for the history department in which
students can publish their work.
