Minors

The Department of Sociology offers three minors: Criminology & Criminal Justice, Sociology and Italian and Italian-American Studies. The requirements for each minor are listed below.


Criminology & Criminal Justice minor - six courses

  • CCJ 2610 Essentials of Criminal Justice 
  • CCJ 3680 Criminology (after 2610)
  • Four other CCJ courses of your choice

Sociology minor - six courses

  • SOC 1010 Principles of Sociology
  • Five other sociology courses of your choice

Italian and Italian-American Studies minor - five courses

  • SOC 2660 Italian and Italian-American Culture (prereq is SOC 1010, 1020 or permission of instructor)
  • IT 1110 Basic Italian II
  • Three electives chosen from:
    • COMM 4350 Italian and Italian-American Cinema
    • ECON 2200 Fashion, Design and Food: The Strength of Italy in the World Economy
    • ENG 3500 Ethnic American Literature (Prerequisite Eng 1100)
    • HIST 3090 The Italian Renaissance (Prerequisite – History 1010)
    • IT 2100 Intermediate Italian (Prerequisite – It 1110)
    • MUS 1400 Italian Opera
    • SOC 3630 Organized Crime: Fact or Fiction* (Prerequisite – Soc 1010)
    • SOC 3440 Sociology of Italian Art/Culture (Course includes a Field Experience in Italy)
