Mary Pat Baumgartner received her B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from Yale University. She teaches Sociology of Law, Social Deviance, and Social Problems.

Her publications include The Moral Order of a Suburb (Oxford University Press, 1988) and a number of articles and reviews. Among the latter are "Sociology of Law," in the Companion to the Philosophy of Law and Legal Theory , edited by Dennis Patterson; "Violent Networks: The Origins and Management of Domestic Conflict,: in Aggression and Violence: Social Interactionist Perspectives, edited by Richard B. Felson and James T. Tedeschi.
