Professor Vilhauer received his Ph.D. in 2002 from the University of Chicago, and his A.B. in 1996 from Harvard. He teaches courses on ethics, modern philosophy, free will, political philosophy, philosophy of law, and introductory philosophy. His research is currently focused on free will theory in contemporary and modern philosophy. He has published articles in journals including The Philosophical Quarterly, Philosophical Studies, The British Journal for the History of Philosophy, and the Canadian Journal of Philosophy.
Professor Vilhauer is also the Director of the Liberal Studies B.A. Program, which is housed in the Philosophy Department. You can find out more about this program at
