The placement test is required of all students entering WPU for each language they have studied in a high school, institute, or institution of higher learning prior to their first semester at WPU.

Incoming freshmen take the foreign language placement test on the same day that they take the Basic Skills placement test before their first semester at WPU. Upon review by the Department of Languages & Cultures, placement results are communicated to students via email and by mail. Transfer students need to take the placement test in the Multimedia Language Center (MLC) located in Atrium 131. The MLC offers:

• Drop-in testing Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:30pm.
• Evening appointments are available upon request.

The language placement test is currently available in Chinese, ESL, French, German, Russian and Spanish. If you have learned a different language, please contact the MLC at LC-Placement@wpunj.edu.
