Challenge Exam

Challenge Exams are administered by the Department of Languages & Cultures for any language taught at the University. These are:

  • Offered only at the Intermediate level (2100 and 2110)
  • Can be taken for the purpose of purchasing credits only before a student earns 60 credits (90 credits in the case of transfer students)
  • If taken after earning 60 credits (90 credits in the case of transfer students) no credits may be purchased, but a waiver from the language requirement may be issued.

For languages not taught at WPU, challenge exams may be taken at NYU (upon payment of their fee). NYU challenge exams will be accepted for credit or waiver as outlined above.

The Challenge Exam is offered for

 

  • Arabic
  • Chinese
  • French
  • German
  • Hindi
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Latin
  • Persian
  • Portuguese
  • Spanish
  • Turkish
 

  

Students who have

  • less than 90 credits can purchase three (3) or six (6) credits if they pass the exam.
  • over 90 credits can only take the exam for a waiver from the language requirement.
