Applying to PATSEL

ESL Certification

The PATSEL grant is available to teachers who would like to pursue an ESL certification and are:

  • currently teaching Math, Science, or Technology exclusively
  • interested in becoming leaders in and advocates of the use of effective instructional strategies for English learners in STEM education. 

If you'd like to be considered for the PATSEL ESL scholarship, you need:

  1. Proof of employment as a Math, Science or Technology teacher
  2. Initial New Jersey teaching certificate(s) - Standard or certificate of eligibility advanced standing only
  3. A cumulative undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.00 scale (unofficial transcripts)
  4. Two letters of recommendation from school administrators who can attest to your professional abilities
  5. Cover letter
  6. A personal interview with the Admissions Committee

Bilingual Education Certification

The PATSEL grant is available to education majors interested in pursuing an additional bilingual certification as an endorsement on their initial teaching certifications at the undergraduate level.

If you'd like to be considered for the PATSEL Bilingual Education scholarship, you need:

  • Admission to P-3, K-5, P-3/K-5 Dual, K-5/5-8 Endorsement, K-5/TSD Endorsement, or K-12 (Mathematics, Social Studies, or Science program)
  • A personal interview with the Admissions Committee
