Evelyn Gonzalez received her doctorate from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of Columbia University in 1993. She specializes in United States History and has been at William Paterson University since fall 1995, teaching courses in US Urban History, the History of the Sixties, Race and Ethnicity, and New Jersey History. She is the author of The Bronx, published by Columbia University Press in 2004, and is now working on a book length history of urbanization in New Jersey, as well as articles on Blacks and Puerto Ricans in the early Bronx and press coverage of Newark by New Jersey and New York newspapers.
