Writing and Literature Concentrations

This 18-credit academic minor will complement any major, enhance your writing prowess, and give you the composition, editing and analytical skills employers want. In addition, many of the classes will fulfill the upcoming University Core Curriculum writing-intensive course requirements.

English Minor with a Concentration in Literature                                                           This 18-credit minor will sharpen your reading, interpretation and critical thinking skills—You’ll study great novels, understand Shakespeare and inebriate yourself with poetry!     The requirements:                                                                                                             ENG 200 Methods of Literary Analysis..............................................................3 credits    Three survey courses from American, English or Western European offerings:                301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 306, 317, or 318........................................................9 credits         One literary period course or one writing course……....................……………...3 credits   One English elective (200-level or higher)……….......…………………………….3 credits

Note: With the chairperson’s permission, 6 credits of other English courses may be substituted for two of the required courses in the minor. English Majors wishing to complete both the Literature and the Writing concentrations may use ENG 200 for both concentrations, meaning that only 15 extra credits need be completed.

  2. Select the "Self Service" Tab
  3. Under Self Service Quick Links-Registration, on the top center of the page, Select "Declare/Change of Major Request Form"
  4. Complete the form and you are done
