This site requires you to have an account, which has already been created for critical languages faculty. Foreign Service Language Resources Site: The home for language courses developed by the Foreign Service Institute. These courses were developed by the United States government and are in the public domain. (Japanese and Persian are not available) MERLOT: A general multimedia educational resource for learning and online teaching. Use the seach field to type your language and see what's available in their archive. You might get links to culture, history, literature, or language teaching sites. Pearson Language Teaching: From the language teaching publisher Pearson. Even though it focuses on ESL, the various teaching strategies offered here are generally applicable to any language. UCLA Language Materials Project: Teaching resources for the less commonly taught languages. (Search for "Mandarin" instead of "Chinese"). There is also a section on curriculum design, standards, and proficiency-based teaching. Asia Society's Teacher's Resources: A collection of sample lessons, background essays, maps, images, and more related to the teaching of Asia. World Language Asessment: This website "supports and empowers world language educators to improve student proficiency through a variety of assessment strategies, focusing on the three modes of communication (interpretive, presentational, and interpersonal)". Startalk. A resource website for Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Persian, and Urdu. "The purpose of this site is to share information on implementing programs as well as to share resources on curriculum design, instructional materials, assessment tools, and useful links." Virtual Item Bank (VIB): it provides teachers with practical ideas and models for developing classroom assessments. Incorporating online technology in your class (adapted from Cindy Kendall's wiki on the use of instruction technology) Flashcard Exchange and Quizlet: Interactive flashcards for language practice and study (grammar, vocabulary, reading). All Critical Languages are available. Recorded Materials Archive: Audio Materials from the Center for Language Technology and Instructional Enrichment at Indiana University, Bloomington. Creative Commons: A database of works (pictures, music, videos, etc) that are free to use or share. SurveyMonkey and Google Docs Forms: An easy and free way to collect information about your students and present it. Poll Everywhere: This website allows you to poll your students, just as clickers would. They respond by simply texting the answer from their cellphones. Voice Thread: This is a tool for creating digital storytelling. You can add text, audio, or video to each slide or picture. Voki: Create your own talking avatar! Comiqs, ToonDoo, and Pikistrips: Websites that allow you to build comic strips. Glogster: Create your own poster online. Scrapblog: Create your own scrapbook online. xtranormal: Create your own animated movie online. BubblyPLY: Add comentary bubbles to any video. Gcast: Make podcasts using your cellphone. A great way to get students to record their language production. Edublogs and Blogger: Create a classroom blog, as well as student blogs. Playlist: A database of songs from all over the world that you can play online. Moodle: An open source class management system. Wikispaces, pbwiki, and webpaint: Build a classroom website as well as student websites. TubeCaption: Add captions to your favorite videos. Media Converter: Convert files to different formats. TeacherTube: Teacher videos, appropriate for use in the class.
