- Tuesday, February 10th, 3:30 to 4:45 pm: Reflections of ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines: ideas on how to implement them in the classroom, by Kara Rabbitt, Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Atrium 258.
- Friday, February 27th, 9 am to 12 pm and 1 to 4 pm: Building Student Proficiency, Chantal Thompson. Student Center 209-211.
Professor Chantal Thompson, pedagogy specialist in second language acquisition, will offer a full-day workshop on addressing student proficiency in every level of language teaching—from 110 courses to literature classes. A professor of French and African Literature, Professor Thompson builds upon her extensive experience as a certified ACTFL OPI tester and trainer to address pedagogical applications of ACTFL assessment. Coordinator of first-year language courses at Brigham Young University, Professor Thompson regularly provides workshops on developing student proficiency in such venues as the annual conference of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. This is a great opportunity to gain practical approaches to building our students’ written and oral proficiency at all levels.
