| Bilingual/ESL
Graduate Program
The
Bilingual/ESL Graduate Program in the Department of Languages and
Cultures provides students with a rich range of experiences needed
to understand the ways in which language is learned and used in
diverse settings. Viewing language as an integral part of social
and cognitive development, we pay particular attention to the cultural
contexts and social situations in which it occurs.
The program prepares students for careers in bilingual education,
teaching English to speakers of other languages, consultation, supervision,
and research in educational linguistics. Academic training is supplemented
with practical experience through field research and internship
at neighboring school districts that offer bilingual/ESL programs
to language minority children. For further information, please contact
Dr. Keumsil Kim Yoon, the program director, at (973) 720-3041 or

in English and American Literature and contextual studies, literary
criticism, history of the language, and modern linguistics.
The
writing concentration offers aspiring writers, pre-professionals,
teachers who wish to update their skills, and individuals interested
in writing as process enough structure to supply a firm foundation
and enough flexibility to accommodate individual writing goals.

History
Masters Program
The Masters of Arts in History is designed for the 21st century.
Through an innovative curriculum that focuses on global historical
analysis and the integration of the most recent information technology
into historical research and teaching, program graduates will acquire
the skills necessary to communicate historical insights in a diverse
and technologically advanced society. Thematic courses, such as
the history of crime, science, women, and sexuality complement the
traditional menu of national and period histories. The flexibility
of the program allows students to tailor a course of study to fit
their specific needs. After completing their course work, students
write a master's thesis to demonstrate their skills in historical
research and analysis.
