Language Testing FAQ

Where do I go to sign up?

You need to sign up for the tests at www.languagetesting.com

Are there certain dates when testing takes place or is the schedule flexible?

The schedule is flexible; you can choose the date and time that best fits your schedule when registering for the tests.

How much does the testing cost?

ESL Candidates: (2 tests) English OPI and English WPT - $210
Bilingual Candidates: (4 tests) English OPI, English WPT, Target Language OPI, and Target Language WPT - $420

Do I have to take both the OPI and the WPT on the same day?

No, you can schedule the tests to best fit your schedule. We recommend taking two sections of the test on one day and the remaining two sections on another day.

When will I receive my scores?

Scores may become available as soon as the same day you took the test or within a few days after taking the tests.

How long are my scores good for?

The scores are valid for two years.

If I don't pass, can I retake the tests?

Yes, you can retake the tests.

How much does it cost for a retest?

The cost for a retake is the same as the cost for the initial test.

What do I need to have with me to take the tests?

If you are taking the tests online, you will need a computer with internet access, webcam, microphone, a mirror, and your government ID. If you are taking the tests at a test site with a proctor, check with the site to see if you need anything besides your government ID.

Where are the tests administered?

You can take the tests entirely online; you do not need to come to campus. If you prefer taking the tests with an in-person proctor, you may choose to do so when registering.

How long is each test?

The OPI is about 30-45 minutes long, and the WPT is about 80 minutes long.

What scores are needed to pass?

ESL Candidates: English OPI- Advanced Low / English WPT - Advanced Low

Bilingual Candidates: English OPI - Intermediate High / English WPT - Advanced Low
