EdTPA

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL EDUCATION MAJORS

As part of the teacher certification process, the New Jersey Department of Education is requiring a performance assessment beginning with the fall 2017 semester. All education majors who expect to participate in clinical practice (student teaching) in the fall 2017 semester will be required to complete a new state-mandated performance assessment, edTPA.

edTPA is a performance-based assessment process designed by educators to answer the essential question of whether new teachers are ready to begin teaching. edTPA includes a review of a teacher candidate’s authentic teaching materials and serves as a culmination of a teaching and learning process that documents and demonstrates each teacher candidate’s ability to effectively teach his/her subject matter to all students.

Education majors who participate in clinical practice (student teaching) during the fall 2017 and spring 2018 semesters are required to officially submit this performance assessment to be eligible for teacher certification in New Jersey. Beginning with the fall 2018 semester, all education majors must receive a passing score on this performance assessment to be eligible for teacher certification in New Jersey. The cost to take this performance assessment at this time is $300.
