The Masters in Middle Level Education is a 30-credit online degree program for practicing teachers. It is designed for teachers who wish to have preparation at the advanced masters level. This program is for teachers in the field as they continue their professional growth and provides a solid foundation for further graduate study toward a doctorate in education or related fields.  It offers active professionals substantial experience in the theory, research, and practice related to middle level education.

Entry Requirements

Teaching Experience

A copy of a teaching certificate (either K-5, K-5/5-8, or K-12 subject area), or documentation of two years teaching experience at an independent school

Transcripts

Official transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended.  A cumulative grade point average from past degrees of at least 2.75 on a 4.00 scale is required. 

Admission Testing

Applicants must achieve a minimum verbal score of 450 (older scale: prior to August 1, 2011) or 150 (current scale) on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE); or a scale score of at least 388 on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) (Applicants who do not meet the standardized test requirements may supplement the application with additional materials that demonstrate their academic potential for successful completion of the graduate degree). 

Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation are required from professional sources that attest to the applicant’s professional and academic abilities to complete graduate work.

Essay

A 250-500 word essay explaining the applicant’s reasons for applying to this graduate program.

Resume

A resume of relevant teaching or educational work.
