The National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) is responsible for the professional accreditation of schools, colleges and departments of education within the state of Maryland and throughout the nation. NCATE's Standards for Professional Development Schools were endorsed by the Unit Accreditation Board, Standards Committee in March 2001. The Holmes Partnership is a network of universities, schools, community agencies and national professional organizations working in partnership to create high quality professional development and significant school renewal to improve teaching and learning for all children. The Holmes Partnership is responsible for much of the literature that has influenced the PDS movement, including "Tomorrow's Teachers" (1986), "Tomorrow's Schools" (1990), and "Tomorrow's Schools of Education (1995).
The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) is the professional accrediting organization for schools, colleges, and departments of education in the United States. It is a coalition of over 30 organizations representing teachers, teacher educators, policymakers, and the public. NCATE recently hosted a Video Webcast devoted to New Standards for Professional Development Schools.
The Electronic Learning Community (ELC) provides new channels of communication and collaboration among program participants, with an emphasis on mentoring and peer support. As a community-based site, the ELC reflects the multitude of skills, knowledge, and expertise of the participant group—while at the same time facilitating communication across geographic and professional boundaries. It enhances the learning and cohesiveness of the community by providing an open forum for the timely sharing of "just in time, just for me" solutions.
