Applications for matriculation in the Educational Leadership Program are accepted through June 1st. The program is designed around a cohort model with all candidates taking the same courses through a prescribed two year sequence. The program begins with an orientation in May with the first required course held during the first two weeks in July. Thereafter, courses are offered on three Friday evenings from 4:45 - 9:00 PM and four Saturdays from 9:00 - 4:00 PM (one weekend per month for four months for each course). M.Ed. candidates take two courses during the fall and spring semesters and one course during each of the summer sessions during the two year. The sequence is summer year one (3 credits), fall year one (6 credits), spring year one (6 credits), summer year two (3 credits), fall year two (6 credits), spring year two (6 credits). Additionally students are required to fulfill a 300 hour administrative internship during the two year program (6 credits) and complete an action research project (3 credits). Candidates completing the 39 credit M.Ed. degree also receive their supervisory endorsement (Endorsement Code: 0106) and, upon passing the School Leadership Licensure Assessment (SLLA) Praxis, they also receive a certificate of eligibility for school principal (Endorsement Code: 0299).

Each applicant must clearly demonstrate that s/he can fulfill the requirements of the program and have the capacity to complete graduate level work. Documentation of all these requirements must be sent to the Office of Graduate Services, Raubinger Hall Room #139.
A. Transcripts and Certifications
- Official transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended.
- Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a GPA of not less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- An applicant who has a graduate degree from an accredited college or university must have a GPA of not less than 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- A standard NJ instructional or educational services certificate or its out-of-state equivalent is required.
B. Admission Testing
- Applicants must achieve a minimum verbal score of 450 (older scale: prior to August 1, 2011) or 150 (current scale) on the Graduate Record Examination or a scale score of at least 388 on the Miller Analogies Test.
- Official copy of the results of MAT or GRE. This requirement is waived if your graduate GPA was at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- MAT/GRE admission testing requirement for applicants holding a master's degree and GPA 3.5 or higher is waived.
- At least five years of successful, full time teaching or educational services experience is required. An original letter from a school official (principal or assistant principal or human services director), on the school’s official letterhead, must be submitted. Included should be dates of employment and the positions held during those specific dates.
- Applicant with fewer than five may be considered for admission based on a full review of the applicant's portfolio which strongly supports leadership potential.
- A signed memorandum of agreement will be required if the experience requirement is waived. This is completed during the required interview.
D. Letters of Recommendation
- Two letters of professional recommendation. One letter should be from your school principal who agrees to serve as your mentor for during your two-year administrative internship.
- All letters must be on official letterhead with original signatures.
- A personal interview will be required before being accepted for matriculation. You must bring a portfolio that includes the following:
- A resume and a copy of all your certifications.
- A one-page essay on why you would like to join the leadership program and your career aspirations.
- A copy of this essay should also be sent to the graduate admissions office.
- One recommendation letter from your principal and one from another professional in a leadership position.
- One or two artifacts that show your teaching competency.
- One or two artifacts that support your leadership experiences.
- Applicants who do not meet the grade point average or minimum admissions test requirements may supplement the portfolio with additional materials that support their academic and leadership potential for successful completion of this graduate program.
- At the interview, you will be requested to complete a short writing sample demonstrating your ability to respond to a leadership prompt in a coherent well articulated manner.
- The interview and completion of the writing task will take approximately one hour.

Transfer credit is considered but limited to not more than six (6) credits for courses that closely match course descriptions of those offered in the M.Ed. or the 30 credit certification programs. Courses must have been taken within the past five years and were not part of another degree program. Final decisions are made by the program director after careful review of all submitted materials.
