Subject Field Certification (K-12)

This program offers a graduate curriculum leading to a New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing to teach in one of the following fields: art, biological science, English, French, health & physical education, mathematics, music, physical education, physical science, social studies or Spanish, depending on the student's academic background.

Entry Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • An undergraduate cumulative G.P.A. of 2.75 or higher on a 4.00 scale
  • Completion of an appropriate academic major in in liberal arts or science.
  • A passing score on an essay that requires the candidate to describe her/his reasons for wishing to complete the program
  • Interviewing with Admission Selection Committee.* (Organized by the Program’s Coordinator)
  • Successfully passing the Praxis exam in the content area that candidate will teach
  • Become a member of content area Specialized Professional Association (SPA).

    * The Committee will be comprised of faculty in the department and possibly a representative from the Office of Field Experiences.

EXIT Requirements

A cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.00 scale

  • Completion of 9 credits in the behavioral and social sciences.
  • Completion of physiology and hygiene requirement.
  • Completion of the required number of credits in the program with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
