Practicum and Student Teaching

Do not forget to apply for practicum and student teaching through the Office of Field Experiences -- applications must be submitted one year in advance.

Another requirement for entrance into the COE is to complete the Speech and Hearing Assessment.

You must register for the Speech and Hearing Assessment using the link found on the Office of Certification Home page.

You will be asked to participate in a number of tasks wherein your speech and language will be judged for contextual accuracy, topic maintenance, syntactic and articulatory variety and accuracy, fluency and voice appropriateness. The tasks include spontaneous conversation and reading a passage which includes all the sounds in the English language. You will also be given a pure tone hearing screening.

This quick screening (about 10 minutes) permits the clinician to judge (1) whether or not a communication problem exists on a gross level, and/or (2) the need for further testing.

Please note, matriculation decisions for acceptance in the professional certification programs will be held up until your testing results are completed and received.

Cancellations are accepted only with a doctor's note. Once scheduled through our automated system, you will not be permitted to reschedule again without contacting the Office of Certification. This process is in place to ensure that only one space is reserved for every prospective candidate.

Please note: on the day and time of your appointment, you will report to Hunzinger Wing (on the main campus) - room 7C.

Letters of Completion and/or Recommendations for Certification will not be submitted until:

1. degrees are posted;
2. student teaching reports are received; and
3. Praxis scores are submitted to Certification
