GEAR UP

This course provides students with some basic concepts related to both personal finance matters and investment methodologies.

The course emphasizes a hands-on approach and encourages teamwork and interaction through games such as Financial Jeopardy, and stock selection competitions.

The course also provides some practical applications as well such as helping students construct a budget and use checking and savings accounts. Students are able to use the time value of money concept to estimate how much money they would have in their banks if they invested a specified amount.


Learning Outcome

  • Explain what the time value of money is and how to calculate present and future values for sums of     money using Microsoft Office.
  • Understand some basic finance terminology.
  • Follow company news and its effect on the company's stock.
  • Understand what is contained in a basic financial plan and construct a table with income and     expenses.
  • Understand checking and savings accounts and how the banking system works.
