Professional
Enrichment:
Programs
and Requirements
What
is Professional Enrichment?
The College of Business
undergraduate programs are guided by a framework that includes,
among other things, the professional enhancement, readiness, and
awareness of our student body. As such, the professional
enrichment initiative encourages the provision of opportunities
for our students to meet and network with area specialists, hear
business leaders speak, become involved in work related activities
such as internships, practicum, and job shadowing, and attend
various seminars and forums that deal with their professional
development and/or contemporary work related issues.
What
is Required in Order to Meet the Professional Enrichment Expectations?
While attendance of Professional Enrichment activities is not required for graduation, all College of Business majors are strongly encouraged to attend Professional Enrichment events. Bonus points may be awarded for attendance at such events or it may be part of the final grade for certain courses. Contact your instructor for more information.
How
are Enrichment Points Earned?
Students earn enrichment
points through their involvement in supporting College
of Business sponsored and co-sponsored activities and include, but are not limited to participation
in:
Careers
workshops,
The Business
Leaders; Finance; Small Business Development; or related large
scale College of Business symposiums,
Numerous co-sponsored
small group workshops and forums, such as the stress management
or resume writing seminars,
The job shadowing
program,
Career-related
field trips.
Students should
always bring their University identification card (student ID) to any
enrichment activity they attend. The ID card will be scanned,
and enrichment points entered into a database, for the purpose
of monitoring the number of points earned. Failure
to bring the ID card will result in no enrichment point credit
for the activity.
What
are the Major Benefits of the Enrichment Initiative?
The enrichment program provides benefits to all students,
depending on the activities pursued, by allowing them to:
Network
and meet with leading professionals in a diversified set of
business arenas,
Experience one-on-one
job training in the job shadowing program,
Become familiarized
with decision making issues faced by organizations,
Learn about
job opportunities and career choices,
Stay abreast
of contemporary business issues,
Gain an appreciation
of the difficult issues faced by professionals,
Conduct on-site
visits to financial markets and other organizational sites,
Prepare appropriately
for the transition between academia and the professional work
environment.
How
do I Find Out About Enrichment Activities?
There are numerous
ways that students can stay informed of enrichment activities.
These include the link to the current schedule in the light-blue box on the left, postings on the plasma screens in the Valley Road lobby, announcements in class, flyers, mailings, e-mails, and posting of events throughout the Valley Road building.
Remember,
it is your responsibility as a College of
Business student to include, within your schedule, enrichment
activities. If you have any further questions or would like
