orchestra

This program, for students who possess both exceptional performance abilities and aspirations, demands an intense commitment to both music practice and academics. Courses span the history of traditional and contemporary music theory and musicianship to provide the well-rounded preparation necessary for professional success in music.

This program is designed primarily for those musicians, both singers and instrumentalists, who are interested in pursuing study in classical performance and who are willing to devote time and energy to study music theory, music history and other related courses required in a degree program in music.

The B.M. Classical Performance program provides private lessons in the major performing area during the eight semesters the student is enrolled in the program. In addition to this solo study, students perform in small and large ensembles related to their expertise.

Students will be expected to perform in recitals during the sophomore, junior and senior years. During the last semester of study, the student will present a senior recital. Attached is information about the curriculum which makes up the B.M. Classical Performance degree. The degree is offered in the following areas: woodwinds, brass, percussion, strings, piano, organ, voice and classical guitar.

Features of the program include:

  • Hour-long lessons each week for eight semesters with our distinguished faculty.
  • Extensive performance opportunities with one or more of our large and chamber ensembles.
  • Participation in performance workshops with visiting master teachers.
