The Bachelor of Arts in Communication

 The Communication Department strongly suggests students purchase laptops (but are not required to do so):

 

Minimum requirements for PC users

Any recently manufactured PC with the following specifications:

  • Estimate Price - $500-2,000 (prices vary)
  • Processor/Speed - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz or higher
  • Hard Drive - 250GB @ 5400 rpm or higher
  • Memory/Ram - 2GB
  • Operating system - Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (Home Premium/Ultimate)

Note:

a. PC not designed for use with professional editing programs, ie. Adobe Priemere, Avid, Pro Tools)

b. Laptops will be used for COMM 1190 assignments

USB 2.0 4GB Flash Drive

  • Estimated Cost - $10 (prices vary)
  • Hard Drive Capacity - 4GB

 

Minimum requirements for Media Production majors

Mac Book Pro (13 Inch)

  • Estimated Price - $1,199 (prices subject to change)
  • Processor/Speed - 2.4 Intel Core 2 duo (1066 MHz FSB 3MB L2 Cache)
  • Hard Drive - 250GB @ 5400 rpm
  • Memory/Ram - 4GB, DDR3-1066 SO-DIMM
  • Video Card - NVIDIA GeForce 320M integrated graphics processor (256MB of DDR3 of SDRAM shared)

LaCie External Rugged All-Terrain Hard Drive - Not mandatory, but recommended
(If planning to run Final Cut Pro/Avid/Adobe Premiere/Pro Tools, 7200 rpm hard drives work best)

  • Special Features - FireWire 800/400 connection capability
