    All studio foundation courses must be completed by the end of sophomore year. Upper level studio courses must be taken according to pre req. in catalogue.

     

    UCC Requirements (31 Credits)

    Beginning Fall 2011, the University Core Curriculum (the Core) will be the general education program of William Paterson University for students entering Fall 2011 or later.

    Students create their Core experience by choosing a sequence of 13 (thirteen) courses from each of the following six areas of study. Each area and sub-area will have a variety of courses to choose from.

    *First Year Seminar (required for 1st year students & transfers with less than 12 credits)

    1. Personal Well-Being (1000 or 2000 Level)

    • Choose from approved list of courses (3 credits)

    2. Expression (1000 or 2000 Level)

    • ENG 1100 - College Writing (3 credits)
    • ENG 1500 - Experiences in Literature (3 credits)

    3. Ways of Knowing (1000 or 2000 Level)

    • PHIL 1100 - Intro to Philosophy (3 credits)
    • HIST 1030 - Foundations of Civilization (3 credits)
    • Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 credits)
    • Scientific Perspectives (4 credits)
    • Quantitative Thinking (3 credits) - MATH 1100 or higher

    4. Diversity and Justice (2000 Level)

    5. Community and Civic Engagement - Not Required for the BFA

       Courses in Areas Four, Five and Six (Diversity and Justice, Community and Civic Engagement, and Global Awareness) may be within student majors. Such courses can thus be used to satisfy both, Core and major requirements.

      Students at WPU are required to complete four (4) Writing Intensive (WI) courses and two (2) Technology Intensive (TI) courses. These courses are not additional “stand-alone” courses but any course — within the Core, or any major or any minor or any free elective — that has been designated as a WI or TI course.
