Sculpture and Digital Media 1 and 2, Michael Rees.

Introduction to the use of new media in the pursuit of sculpture including Computer Aided Design modeling, network sculpture projects, augmented reality, automatic manufacture with 3d printing, cnc milling and laser cutting. 

Sculpture is a kind of physical philosophy. It becomes particularly interesting when it loses all of its physical attributes and becomes virtual. Digital media is a utopian representational system. We will study the ways that computers deal with form making and apply it to the development of sculptural concepts via software. This is a preparatory course for Sculpture and Digital Media and introduces students to the various approaches to modeling for sculpture.

Hack and Make. Vita Eruhimovitz. Introduction to Mechatronics with the goal to make a 3d printer and an aerial drone. 

New ecologies of making have emerged as a result of the confluence of the maker movement and the world wide web. Everything from craft products to electronics hacking, to online file sharing of computer files and models  to market places to present those goods, the momentum is in the hands of the individual. This course seeks to educate students about this global trend and to teach about the systems around 3d automatic fabrication. Specifically, we will make a 3d printer over the course of the semester, building it up from scratch. We will learn about all aspects of creating a mechatronic device (a machine that uses computers and software to control mechanical, chemical and electronic systems).  The course will also identify other products that can be approached with the same skill set learned here: computer numerical control mills, unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), and other do-it-yourself electronic projects.

Computer Graphics I- Modeling for Animation Steve Rittler
An introductory course for 3D Modeling techniques used in animation and fine arts. Advanced 3D modeling software and hardware systems are introduced and utilized. NURB and Polygonal modeling techniques, shading, texturing, lighting and rendering methods are introduced and explored, with a goal of presentation in video, film and video gaming mediums. Students will learn to create complex and hierachical 3D virtual models for use in subsequent 3D Animation and Sculpture classes. Software used: Autodesk Maya, Mudbox, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier. Course level- Beginner to Intermediate level.
