WPSC-FM is North Jersey's Independent Radio. The station, FCC licensed to the city of Wayne NJ, started operating in December of 1988.

WPSC-FM is highly respected and popular in North Jersey. The station serves an area containing more than two million people. According to an Arbitron survey of a few years ago, WPSC-FM’s audience members, 18-49 year olds, spend an average of 10 hours per week tuned into WPSC at 88.7 FM.

WPSC-FM is an integral component of the Department of Communication at William Paterson University.

WPSC-FM is a Non-Commercial Educational Station, part of the William Paterson Broadcast Network, managed by a professional broadcaster on the faculty of the Department of Communication.

WPSC’s block format provides a wide variety of music and informative content in a consistent pattern across the week. The station offers programming every day of the week averaging 21 hours daily.

WPSC’s funding is a combination of departmental budget allocations and underwriting revenue solicited by student underwriting associates. The station receives no financial support from the Student Government Association. Under direct supervision from the general manager, the underwriting department, along with the promotion department, develops targeted plans and promotions for potential underwriters and sponsors in order to achieve the maximum publicity for their business as permitted by FCC regulations.

WPSC-FM, as a living laboratory, mirrors broadcast industry realities. Students apply for positions and can work up through the ranks to become student management team members. Students are encouraged to submit application forms that are supported by resumes and audition tapes in order to be considered for on-air positions. In addition, a training program taught by student managers under the supervision of the general manager covers necessary facets of radio station operations. Training responsibilities include on-air, production, and departmental procedures.

WPSC’s student management team is organized as directorships. The directors are responsible for individual coordinated department operations. WPSC-FM departments include the following: Music, News, Operations, Production, Program, Promotion, Public Service, Sports and Underwriting. The student department directors, under the supervision of the general manager, make departmental management decisions and assume the consequences that go with them. The graduating students from WPSC-FM develop profound insights of both.
