William PatersonCampus
Ministry honored as ‘Outstanding Organization’
WAYNE - The William PatersonCollege
Catholic campus ministry here has been named the "Outstanding WPCOrganization"
for the fifth time. Members of the Campus MinistryClub also received
the "Outstanding Community Service Organization" andthe "Outstanding Program
: Thanksgiving Awareness Program" awards duringa recent awards banquet
at LaNeve’s Restaurant, Haledon.
"Out of a college of 10.000students
and over 60 clubs, organizations and Greek fraternities and sororities, the
CCMClub has once again exhibited its positive role of leadership onour
campus," said Fr. Lou Scurti, campus ministry director.
He also thanked hisassociate,
Joanne DePasquale, who coordinated the Thanksgiving Awarenessprogram and
the spring collection, "Shelter the Homeless."
"Without Joanne’s enthusiasmand
great spirit, our programs and ministry to the WPC students, facultyand
staff would be diminished," he said.
The club also presented awards for outstandingstudent
leadership to Jennifer Sieminski and outstanding alumnus to DavidMcMillan,
as well as gifts to representatives of Eva’s Shelter and YouthHaven at
the annual Appreciation Night Mass where $2,500 was collected.
"The enthusiasm of the youthwho
donated every penny to the collection as an inspiration," said Msgr.Vincent
Puma, founder and chief executive of Eva’s.
"Although we have been in the processof
raising funds for the eventual construction of our own Catholic CampusMinistry
chapel, every penny collected by the students goes to the poorand homeless,"
Father Scurti said. "It is more importantthat these young leaders
of the 21st century focus their volunteer servicesto the poor, the hungry
and those in need. Funds for our chapel willcome form the generosity
of benefactors who see value in helping theseyoung people forming their
vision of the church as a caring community."

Paragano Foundation Donates$10,000
The fund-raising committee, co-chaired byDenise
DiMicelli has sent out many request to foundations to assist usas we attempt
to build the chapel. Through the years we have receiveda great many
"you're doing a great job with the students" or "your CCMCstudents do so
much great work, charities and outreach." Regrettably wordsare cheap...
However, we are VERY GRATEFULto
the many friends and benefactors who have donated from $1 to $10,000. These
are people who stand behind their words of encouragement. Thereare
also many who have donated TIME, another gift without price!
We are very grateful especiallyto
N. Larry Paragano whose PARAGANO FAMILY FOUNDATION supports the workof
Catholic Campus Ministry with a 1995 and 1996 grant of $5000 each year.
Mr. Paragano's words of encouragementas
we minister to the youth of WPC are greatly appreciated. We inviteour
friends and
Benefactors to assist us as we BUILD THECHAPEL!
Chapel Building Fund ContinuesTo
Grow
With the many generous donationsof
you, our frineds and benefactors, the Chapel fund-raising Campaign continuesto
flourish! No, we haven't reached the GOAL of $300,000, yet,but
we are over a third there.
Working within the constraints of a verytight
budget, our architect has revised the plans of the chapel. They are more
realistic and attainable. But don't stop the donationscoming in!
The revised plans of the CCMChapelinclude
seating for 150 people, a Sacristy, two bathrooms, a hallway, closetsand
a storage area. The MEMORIAL TREE will be located in the hallas one
enters the chapel. All benefactors will be remembered in theBenefactor
Memorial Book, on the Memorial Tree or will be honored by oneof the Memorials
that are still available.
Take a lookat
the new plans for our Chapel!
