This event came out of a need that has been observed by our office for women entering the workforce. When compared to their male counterparts women do not perform as well when it comes to interviewing and networking. Sometimes women, as a result of learned gender roles, tend to glaze over their accomplishments when asked to speak about themselves and shy away from successfully taking advantage of networking opportunities. The old adage of the “Glass Ceiling” is still prevalent and this event attempts to empower women to gain useful skills when searching and negotiating job offers. (See “NJ college-educated women most affected by pay inequality, panel says” http://bit.ly/wJYta7)
The Career Development Center along with Enterprise Rent-A-Car will be hosting a mini-conference that will increase assertiveness in our female students.
This event is beneficial for ALL female students from ALL MAJORS. It is especially important for your graduating seniors and juniors looking for internships. Please encourage the students you know to attend the event.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
