ADDITIONAL FACTS ABOUT THE
PRE-PHYSICAL THERAPY/DOCTOR OF
PHYSICAL THERAPY PROGRAM AT WPUNJ/UMDNJ

  1. The primary advantage for a student in this articulated program is that it reduces one year of schooling.  Students who apply to UMDNJ from non-articulating schools must have a bachelor’s degree.
  2.  UMDNJ has 50 slots available each year.
  3. The GRE is required for admission along with essays and letters of recommendation from Physical Therapists for whom the applicant has worked or volunteered.
  4. Applicants should contact Dr. Leonard who will help them with their application packets. Applications for UMDNJ’s Physical Therapy program are available online at http://shrp.umdnj.edu/admissions/documents/ApplicationforAdmission_000.pdf
  5. Students should apply to UMDNJ by October 1st of their third year.
  6. Tuition for the UMDNJ, DPH PT program is available on their website at http://shrp.umdnj.edu/programs/mpt/fina.html.
  7. Undergraduate financial aid will end when the student completes the program at William Paterson University.
  8. UMD will usually be flexible in accepting course equivalencies.  For example, if a student has taken Basic A&P I and II instead of General A&P I and II, it will be accepted during this transition.  The student should send a letter and accompanying course description about the course(s) in question along with their application.  Other equivalencies that are acceptable during this period are College Chemistry for General Chem I and Organic Chem or Organic Biochem for General Chem II, and Elementary Statistics for Statistics I.
  9. After the required 100+ credits at WPUNJ, the number of credits required in the Physical Therapy program at UMDNJ is 110, with a required summer semester at the beginning of the program.
  10. The contact person for the Admission Committee at UMDNJ is Alma Merians, Ph.D. She can be reached at 973-972-5272; email: boylepk@umdnj.edu
