The mission of the Department of Biology is to offer students the challenge and opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of the basic paradigms of the discipline, leading, upon graduation to entry into the workforce or to further study in professional or graduate school. The diverse student body, including members of different ethnic, religious, educational, and economic backgrounds, are exposed to a variety of instructional modes, including traditional lectures and laboratories, computer-based tutorials, field work, seminars by internationally recognized experts, and collaborative learning with peers, graduate students and faculty. Also, our programs encourage life-long learning by providing opportunities for continuing education for professionals and special events for the surrounding community.
